Instructions (Step by Step)

1. Prepare the Ribs

  • Remove the thin membrane (silverskin) from the bone side of the ribs.
  • Discard the membrane and set the ribs aside.

2. Make the Dry Rub

  • Combine all dry rub ingredients (brown sugar, cumin, chili powder) in a small bowl and mix well.

3. Apply the Dry Rub

  • Sprinkle the dry rub liberally all over both sides of the ribs.
  • Gently rub it in, being especially generous on the meat side.
  • For best flavor, let the ribs sit with the dry rub for at least 30 minutes. Optionally, refrigerate the ribs and let them sit for up to 12 hours.

4. Preheat the Oven

  • Set your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

5. Wrap the Ribs

  • Wrap the racks of ribs securely in two layers of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  • Place the wrapped ribs on a rimmed baking sheet.

6. Bake the Ribs

  • Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Cook until an instant-read meat thermometer reads 190 °F or the meat starts pulling away from the bone and is tender.

7. Add Barbecue Sauce

  • When the ribs are done, open the foil packet and pull it back.
  • Liberally brush on your favorite barbecue sauce.
  • Turn the heat up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and let the ribs cook for an additional 30 minutes or until the sauce has caramelized.

8. Optional Broiling

  • For a charred finish, turn on the broiler and let the ribs cook for a minute or until the outside is charred in places.

9. Slice and Serve

  • Use a sharp knife to slice the ribs before serving.
  • Serve immediately with plenty of napkins and extra barbecue sauce!

Enjoy your perfectly tender and flavorful oven-baked baby back ribs!
