Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 package of Johnsonville Naturals Mild Italian Sausage
  • 1 thinly sliced green pepper
  • 1 thinly sliced red pepper
  • 2 thinly sliced sweet onions
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) of diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. Begin by heating 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the Italian sausages to the pan. Cook them until they are nicely browned on all sides, then take them out of the pan and set aside. At this point, they don’t need to be fully cooked through.
  3. In the same pan, using the leftover grease, add the sliced onions and peppers. Cook them over medium heat until they’ve softened.
  4. Incorporate the garlic by adding it to the pan and sauté for another minute.
  5. Cut the sausages into pieces, about 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick.
  6. Put the sliced sausages back into the pan, along with the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, salt, dried oregano, dried basil, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  7. Let everything cook together for 5 to 10 minutes, until the sausages are fully cooked and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  8. Optionally, you can serve this hearty mixture on hoagie rolls for an extra touch of indulgence.
