Instructions for Herringbone Crochet Stitch

Below are the quick, simple, and easy instructions for crocheting the herringbone stitch:

  1. Row 1: Crochet any number of chains including 1 turning chain.
  2. Row 2 Forward Single Crochet: In this row, you can start the herringbone stitch.
  3. Insert the hook straight in the second chain and perform one single crochet here.
  4. Now insert the hook in the left (V) leg of the previous single crochet (seen in image 1.2) and then into the next stitch, YO, and pull through the loops. YO and pull through all three loops on the hook.
  5. Keep crocheting the single crochet stitches in this across the row following step 4.
  6. Row 3 Reverse Single Crochet: Remember that the chevron pattern of herringbone stitch displays only on one side. So, when you turn the work for the third row, you must work reverse in the third row to bring it to the front.
  7. For this, insert the hook from back to front in all three stitch loops and perform the single crochet.
  8.  Repeat step 7 throughout the row.
  9. Row n: Do similar to rows 2 and 3.
