Below are the step-by-step detailed instructions on how to crochet double crochet:

  • Make a row of foundation chains.

  • Yarn over and insert the hook into the fourth stitch.
  • Yarn over and pull up a loop.
  • Yarn over and pull through the first two loops out of three. In the case of HDC, you pull through all the loops. This is the main difference between DC and HDC.
