Procedures to Know Before Crocheting Bar Stitch

You will need some basic and a little uncommon techniques for crocheting bar stitch. But with little learning and practice, you can master it. 

Instructions for the crochet Bar Stitch

Note: Each of the procedures enclosed in brackets like (sc, dc, dc, sc) will, when needed to be repeated, be written merely as ().

  • Crochet a row of foundation chains in multiple 3 plus 1 turning chains. So, any number (4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22 … etc.) can be.
  • Row 1: Work one single crochet stitch in the second chain from the hook crochet and then across the row.
  • Row 2: (Turn your work, make one turning chain, and insert the hook into the first stitch). Then, single-crochet across each stitch in the row, including where you inserted the hook.
  • Row 3: Repeat (). Make one single crochet and another one in the next stitch. Then, in the post of the 3rd single crochet of row 1, perform one FPDC. {In the next two stitches (next to the top loops of the previous stitch where you performed the FPDC), perform one single crochet in the top loops of each of the next two stitches. In the next stitch, perform one FPDC}. Keep repeating {} throughout the row.
  • Row 4: Make this row like row 2.
  • Row 5: Repeat (). Make one single crochet and another one in the next stitch. Then, in the post of the 3rd single crochet of the previous row, perform one FPDC. Then {} throughout the row.
  • For the next rows, keep repeating the steps of row 4 and then row 5.
