I am always looking for fun and unique crafts that are kid friendly. I’m a proud aunt and my nieces and nephews love getting into my craft supplies. This flower pot kids craft with permanent markers is a project that came to mind in early summer when contemplating new uses for old flower pots that I have lying around the house.
There’s a little prep involved before the kiddos can craft. You’ll want to paint them before they are adorned by little artists. Give each pot at least 4 coats of white acrylic paint over the course of 2 days, allowing each coat to dry for several hours before applying the next coat. The children will surely appreciate a blank, white canvas to work with!
Besides your freshly painted flower pot, you’re going to need a few items including adhesive stencils, mechanical pencils, and permanent markers. I highly suggest using The Write Dudes Infinity Permanent Markers for this project. They are quick drying, fade proof, odorless, and non-toxic. Other permanent markers or Sharpies that I have used in the past don’t offer the fine precision or the vivid color palette that these do.
As you can see from the step by step photo collage above, kids will create a design using adhesive stencils, trace the stencils with pencil, & then color away. Turned out pretty cute, huh? You’ll probably want to have the younger children color their pots free handed while older kids can have a lot of fun creating their artwork with stencils. It’s also a fantastic idea to let the kiddos pick out a plant for their pot. A little adventure at your local greenery is the perfect family summer activity!
